Upcoming Events

Summer Wednesday with Friends | May 16, June 20, July 18, August 15

Join us once a month during the “summer” months for dinner, children’s and youth activities and adult fellowship. Dinner starts at 5:30 pm, followed by programming for all ages at 6:30 pm.

Adults will explore the theme “Prayer & Pilgrimage: Learning to Pray on the Jesus Way.” We’ll kick off the series this Wednesday, May 16, by viewing the film “The Way” (starring father and son Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez). To prepare you can watch the trailer, read a synopsis or see an interview about the spiritual themes of the film.

New Sermon Series | Acts

The consistent witness of scripture is God’s intention to form a people, a community, a visible body upon the earth.  Beginning with Abraham and Sarah in Genesis and continuing through to Paul’s letters and the book of Revelation, the nature and life of the community of faith is the central focus.  God means to have a people who will be a blessing to all the peoples of the earth (Genesis 12:1-4).  Contrary to what many contemporary Westerners or Americans may imagine, the concern of scripture is not the spiritual state of individuals, their holiness or even their salvation.  The focus is God’s ekklesia, God’s gathered community, taking form in the world, which even provides a new world and new vision for those who share in it.  John the Baptist begins his ministry by announcing, “God can raise up a people from these stones” (Luke 3).  Jesus sends his disciples out to make more disciples and to teach in every nation (Matthew 28).

As we continue our overarching conversation for the year, “Discipleship: Followers of the Jesus Way,” we will be using the book of the Acts of the Apostles (Acts) to explore how the early followers became a community, called to a greater venture and to be a part of God’s people in the world.

The book of Acts shows us a faith community that is not only the creation of God and the gift of the Spirit but also a community engaged in the challenges of practicing a new way of life together.  Here we see the church advancing the ministry of Jesus, which proves both disturbing and delighting to a world that is sorely in need of the gospel’s good news—and is yet resistant to it.  Acts is a book for us today as we recognize these same themes in ourselves and our world.
