Missions Update

Andrew & Kim Stave, staff of Lithuania Christian College, are Friends Serving Abroad for Northwest Yearly Meeting. A third child recently entered their family: Greta was born October 6 and is doing well.

Johan & Judy Maurer are Northwest Yearly Meeting Friends Serving Abroad. Among other things, they teach English at the New Humanities Institute and practice hospitality. They are awaiting work visas which will enable them to work in Russia uninterrupted for a full year.

We recently had the opportunity to talk with the Neifert family via Skype during the morning worship service. Patrick and Christy and their children live and work in Haifa, Israel with Cross Media Ministries, broadcasting the hope and joy that comes through faith in Jesus Christ to the Arab world, mostly through internet radio and television. They are sent out as Friends Serving Abroad from the Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends Churches. One of their biggest prayer needs right now is the need for broader financial support for their ministry to continue. Please consider whether God is leading your family to begin (or to increase) monthly support of the Neifert family. Even little amounts go a long way as we join together.

MISSIONS

Living as a community of ministers who seek to follow Jesus Christ, we’re working to meet spiritual and practical needs not only within our church body, but also in Newberg, in the Chehalem Valley and around the world.

  • Global outreach is an exciting way to connect with followers of Jesus worldwide, and we love having a role in God’s work throughout our world.

Our Missions Committee helps individuals and families of North Valley Friends Church stay connected and excited about work happening in Rwanda, Bolivia, China, Russia, Israel, Ireland, Morocco, Lithuania and Mexico.

We are part of this work through our support and encouragement Many people in our church give financially toward the cost of these global outreaches. The Missions Committee also finds ways to encourage our church to communicate with families in other countries through letter-writing, care-packages, email correspondence and pastoral care.

  • Short-term mission trips are a valuable way for both young people and older ones hear and respond to God’s voice leading them in global ministry. We encourage participation in these journeys, often hosting events to help raise funds for them. Around 90 Friends from the Newberg area will be serving in Mexico over spring break, and two of our high school youth will be serving in Cambodia this summer.
